Walton Community Day

Saturday 17th September 2011 Severn Drive Green Junction of Rydens Road and Severn Drive, Walton-on-Thames KT12 The Community Day is an annual event organised jointly by WADAGS and Walton-on-Thames Charity and this year features:

Back by popular demand Henfold Birds of Prey will giving flying displays with their Eagle Owl and Falcons which was such a crowd pleaser last year especially with the children.



Horse


A new attraction this year is Veronica Fraser Harris riding her stallion Naranjal in a display of dressage. Naranjal was Analusian Pre-Stallion Champion in 2010 and Reserve Champion in 2011.



ON THE GREEN

Pippa Greenwood

Celebrity visitor Pippa Greenwood will promote "Growing Your Own" and will sign copies of her book. Pippa is well known to the gardening public as a presenter on BBC Gardeners World programme and a regular panelist on Radio 4 Gardeners Question Time. Pippa was guest speaker at our AGM earlier this year and you will have another opportunity to ask questions on how to get the best from your vegetable patch.

From the allotments there will be fresh fruit, vegetables, flowers and honey for you to buy and local nursery grown vegetable and flower plants. Country Cooks will have homemade cakes, jams, pickles and chutneys on sale and Fresh from the farm there will be new laid chicken and duck eggs.



Other Attractions include Cream Teas and BBQ - How to keep chickens in your garden - Bee keeping demonstration - Art Display and many more fun stalls for all the family.

Scarecrow Competition

The Scarecrow Competition will be one of the attractions at the Community Day and is open to everyone - young and old - individuals and groups - all we ask is that you make your entry eye catching and even a little wacky if you wish! You can style it after a cartoon character, your favourite TV or film personality or even your best friend but please give it a name. Entry forms can be donwloaded from our home page and must be submitted by 14th Septemebr. The winning entry will be awarded a prize of £25. Why not have a go - you may win!

Late Summer Show

One of the flower exhibits at the 2011 Late Summer Show held on 27th August. The Show attracted more than 350 entries of vegetables, fruit, flowers as well as floral art, cookery, handicraft and photography.

The Show was attended by over 160 visitors who enjoyed viewing exhibits of Floral Art such as the one pictured left as well as vegetables and fruit. For details of prizewinners you can download details here.
