Trading Hut
The Trading Hut is operated by volunteers and is open on a Saturday morning from 10.00 am to 12.00 am. It is located at the Highfield road end of the allotments, with parking available in the Elm Grove recreation ground car park at the end of Highfield Road. A map is available by clicking here.
The hut stocks a wide range of organic manures and composts, commercial fertilizers, bamboo canes as well as watering cans, pots and other gardening sundries. Seed potatoes orders are sought by October and then placed with our Scottish supplier; members will be advised on when to collect in late January.
The revamp started last year has continued and we are almost there although there are some alarming signs of wood worm in the shelving. We hope it is inactive but if not a replacement programme will have to begin in earnest.
On the sales front we are pleased to report we are doing well and it is good to see so many of our new members using the trading hut on a regular basis. If you haven’t been along for sometime I urge you to do so as our prices compare favourably with garden centres and we stock many lines you will not find there.
As you will appreciate we cannot please all of the people all of the time but we try our best. Sometimes we decide against reordering a product often because we believe that it has been superseded by a superior one but we will listen and if we no longer carry a line you have always used please let us know and we are happy to discuss the merits or otherwise of holding it in stock.
Our best sellers continue to be Country Natural organic manure, Humax and Bowers potting composts, canes, ground cover and netting. You will find it hard to beat our prices on Ultimate Bug Killer concentrate and the super strength Roundup. In September we will have in stock a range of spring bulbs and there will also be vegetable plants on sale in trays of 12. Early next year we hope to have a selection of Franchi Seeds (Seeds of Italy) to compliment Kings Seeds.
I hope all of this has convinced those of you who haven’t visited for a while that you should come back and see us.
